is one of the most experienced police negotiators in the Czech Republic. Karel’s career in law enforcement started in 2001 at the local department in the fourth district of Prague and continued through patrol to the special intervention unit. 17 years ago, Karel was trained as a police negotiator, and in this capacity has deployed to dozens of sieges, suicide intervention cases, barricades etc. For the last 7 years, Karel has also served as the fulltime coordinator of the negotiation team of the Czech Police in the Prague region.

Karel regularly delivers trainings and seminars for police officers and private sector clients in the field of negotiation and crisis communication. He also participates in the training of new police negotiators throughout the Czech Republic, and also trains border guards of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) in crisis communication.

Karel’s aim is to teach clients the principles that play a key role in successful resolutions of crisis situations such as suicidal acts, hostage-taking, or barricade situations. Principles that are based on respect, calm, concern for others, patience and flexibility. Karel is the author of the dialogue book THE NEGOTIATOR, in which he talks about these principles in connection with the cases he has responded to.
